A stay at home mommie is exactly as the title shows, a mommie who stays at home instead of working outside the home. There is so much more to being a stay at home mommie then just staying at home though. A stay at home mommie is a 24 hour job were you don’t get vacations, you don’t get paid and you only get days off if a family member or babysitter is willing to watch the kids. Even when you are sick you have no option to stay at home in bed and rest most of the day. When you are sick you basically compensate so you get what you can done but put priorities such as your family first.
Being a stay at home mommie in business terms means you are a childcare provider, a cook, a maid, a partial pediatrician, a person who works at the dry cleaners, a teacher, and a shouffer and depending on how you spend your day you are so much more. Unfortunately in this day and age there aren’t very many stay at home mommies out there and being a stay at home mommie you aren’t fully given credit by most for what you accomplish just in a day. A lot of people you run into who aren’t stay at home mommies don’t even believe it’s a real job and don’t believe it should be a salaried job as well when those who are stay at home mommies understand that we do more in one day than those who are out in the career world do in one day mostly. Being a stay at home mommie you not only keep things clean and watch after the family but at the same time you are also in a way a moral officer. I have found from personal experience that just by keeping the house decent when my husband gets home and have a home cooked meal on the table for dinner instead of take out food makes a huge difference in how my husband feels at the end of the day. He comes home from work tired and hungry. When things are in chaos for some reason or another he gets in a very foul mood making everyone else in a bad mood as well. When things are in decent order he feels comfortable and looks forward to coming home.
Keep in mind in this day and age being a stay at home mommiet is nothing like the way things were in the 50’s when women were expected to stay home. In the 50’s you were expected to have breakfast on the table before hubby went off to work and the kids went off to school. You were also expected to have a shiny happy attitude all day long, take care of the kids with no help from your husband what so ever, make sure a hot homemade meal was on the table by the time hubby got home and meet your husband’s every need to make him happy. In this day and age in a way it is similar but its not expected for you to have breakfast on the table in the morning. Infact its quiet normal for stay at home mommie to sleep until the kids get up. You make your own rules at home on what needs to be done first and when you do it, its ok to wait until hubby gets home to start dinner and its ok to order take out or pizza when its just been one of those tiresome days for you. It is also ok to let your husband know when you feel unappreciated and also when you need some help.
If you are seriously considering being a stay at home mommie I can honestly say that since I have been what is called a SAHM which is short for Stay At Home Mom, I have found it extremely rewarding. Besides feeling good knowing you aren’t in a very high stressed job and can work at your own pace its also reassuring to know that I can be there for my children when ever the need me. I can also be there and see first hand when one of my children makes a big accomplishment in life. I also have more control over raising my children when most parents who work come home, are too tired to do much of anything and only have a hour or two with their children before its bedtime. Believe it or not I have also read a few studies that show most children who have a stay at home parent do better in life as well as school and don’t live a life of crime because they have the support and attention from a parent who is aware of what their child’s capability in life by getting to know the child as best as possible.
Being a stay at home mommie is something to be proud of even if others do not feel the same way because you are doing the best thing possible for your best interest and your families best interest.
